Universal Studios was born out of a not completely successful attempt to reduce the high production costs California. Universal Studios Escape was set up in 1990 to help reduce the costs of labour and taxes. It changed its name and added high technology attractions loaded on with special effects and so while Walt Disney World still rules all, Universal is now a stable tourist attraction and with a more mature offering for the adult evening crowd. Universal studios is a full functioning studio and is the site of many TV and movies productions. It is more realistic is its presentation of theme rides and of course relies heavily on it archive of unforgettable films as subject matter. Here you can find as latest additions Men in Black: The ride and interactive excursion where you get to choose. Twister pits you against a Tornedo which will take you breath away. If you want to enjoy the action packed special effects then head to the Terminator experience where he is back to dazzle you with superb effect and high speed action. Some of the classics are also present and you too can be Fay Ray kidnapped by the super king kong. If chaos and terror are what you are looking for then you can head through the Jaws infested waters or get stuck in a subway in an earthquake. Leaving the fake park effects you can enjoy the real world of films and learn how certain techniques are achieved, even those of the master Alfred Hitchcock.Not to be outdone by the other parks in the Orlando area, Universal studios has the islands of Adventure that are choc a bloc with fast and furious rides full thrills and spills to keep you coming back. The islands are five divided by theme and you can island hop around the lagoon to Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Lost Continent and Seuss Landing. Marvel Super Hero Island has rides that feature guess what? Super Heros, that's right. We have three here, the Incredible Hulk Coaster, that is an intense two minute ride; Doctor Doom's Fearfall is just that a free fall from an incredible height 200ft to be exact. Enjoy the views before you find your stomach where your brain usually lodges; The amazing adventures of Spiderman ride is a unique mix of coaster type movement, 3D surround action and pyrotechnic special effects. You get to help Spiderman rescue the statue of Liberty and even the queue is entertaining. The Toon Lagoon features Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges as water way fun second only to the Jurassic Park River Adventure that offers the steepest and fastest splashing water ride with an 85ft drop as you are escorted through dinosaur land. Universal profits from the ownership of Jurassic Park, they even have the same visitor centre used in the movie. Dueling Dragons on the lost continent hosts a pair of inverted roller coasters. The visit ends with a fireworks show at the end of the day on the island of Seuss landing with structures straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. |
